Corona Serenades (2020)

During the unexpected covid-outbreak in March 2020 Studio Tropics and Poolhert Productions joined hands to make CORONA SERENADES: a series of clips showing musicians playing a song in their quiet isolation. To give hope, soothe the pain or simply break the quiet of isolation for a little while.

Inspired by videos of Italians serenading during their quarantine, we were motivated to go out on the street and film musicians while they perform a song from their window, balcony or door. We placed our camera and audio equipment at a safe distance, so the regulations were respected and the virus had no opportunity to spread.

Music is something magical and even though it can’t take away the physical isolation, it can soothe and connect. That is why we wanted to bring some solace and happiness into the living rooms with these videos. During an entire month, we posted a daily video with a musical performance on our joined social media channels (Facebook/Instagram). The videos had no commercial purpose.

The Corona Serenades received media attention through VTM and HLN. Famous participating musicians were, among others, Johannes Genard (School is Cool), Mathieu Terryn (Bazart), Jaouad Alloul, and Philip Bosschaerts (Mintzkov).
